Ramayan the movie coming soon

Mandalay Pictures has picked up film rights to Liquid Comics’ graphic novel “Ramayan 3392 AD” for Mark Canton to produce.
Liquid was spun off from Richard Branson’s Virgin Comics, which shuttered last month, and its toppers are continuing to set up the company’s library of graphic novels as film, TV or game properties.

Sony Online Entertainment optioned “Ramayan,” first published in 2006, last year to turn the game into a massively multiplayer online role-playing title.

John Collee is adapting the comicbook, based on epic Hindu poem about the adventures of legendary blue-skinned warrior Prince Rama, who fights to rescue his wife from the demon king who kidnapped her.

Collee penned “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” the toon “Happy Feet” and the upcoming thriller “Creation,” with Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany.

Canton will produce with Mandalay Pictures, while Liquid toppers Gotham Chopra and Sharad Devarajan will exec produce the pic with Atmosphere Entertainment.

“Ramayan” is one of several projects that Liquid has set up around town. It also has “Virulents” at New Regency, with John Moore attached to direct, and “The Gamekeeper” at Warner Bros., with Guy Ritchie set to helm and Joel Silver to produce.

Ahhh snap! I have read some of these comics. Virgin folded? That sucks. They had come out with some of the most revolutionary comics. John Woo had one called 7 Brothers that was amazing. There was one about a Snake Woman… Lots of Indian artists, and writers. They had an amazing line. Sorry to nerd out on your blog!
